Household Helpers with COVID-19 are Eligible for ECC Benefits
Kasambahays or household helpers that have been infected with COVID-19 can avail of the cash assistance program provided by the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) in the Philippines.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns Director Karen Trayvilla disclosed that household helpers can apply for ₱10,000 cash assistance.
Under the ECC benefits, such helpers are also entitled to daily income benefits amounting to ₱480 for 14 days.
Trayvilla added that these helpers could avail themselves of medical reimbursement for their COVID-19 treatment.
The cash assistance program is part of ECC’s Quick Response Program (QRP), providing immediate help to employees and their families in the event of work-related contingencies such as injury, sickness, or death.
ECC also provides workers with psycho-social counseling and assistance when filing for the Employees’ Compensation (EC) claim.
Besides the ECC’s cash assistance, workers who are infected with the COVID-19 virus because of work may also avail themselves of benefits under the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP).
The ECP provides benefits for sickness and medical assistance. In the case of death, their beneficiaries may also claim death and funeral benefits. However, to be eligible for the ECP, employees must be compulsory members of the Social Security System (SSS) or the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
ECC offices nationwide are open to assist employees with their EC claims. The public is requested to observe precautionary measures when visiting ECC offices.
